In this post-apocalyptic, dystopian thriller, Crazy Hawk, set 100 years into the future, author R.J. Stewart makes an explosive debut as a novelist.
He is not new to writing, however. His 22-year Hollywood writing career, punctuated by his work for the ground-breaking television show, Xena: Princess Warrior, includes collaborating with multi-generational talent such as Kevin Costner, James Garner, Charlie Sheen and Pierce Brosnan.
“After two decades writing in Hollywood, I took two decades off,” says Stewart. “But even as the world has changed over time, the qualities and virtues that inspire us, particularly resiliency, have not changed and I think my novel reflects that spirit.
” Crazy Hawk is about a resilient and fierce woman, Deirdre, seeking to save her kidnapped sister while seeking revenge amidst a global landscape in ruin. Deirdre lives for one purpose: to get her sister back.
If she needs to kill the kidnappers, no problem. She’s good at that. Riding her one-eyed Soul Horse, Danny, she relentlessly pursues the kidnappers through an America wrecked by the Great Virus, endless civil war and a collapse of the global order called the Breakdown. She’s forced by circumstances to ally with a nomadic photographer. His gentle decency moves her to the core, but her mission leads her away from the man she’s falling in love with and toward a confrontation with the people who hold her sister. To defeat them, she’ll need the help of the powerful Nations, a league of indigenous tribes. But there’s a problem. The Nations consider Deirdre a deadly enemy.
They've even given her a nickname that signifies their grudging respect for this ferocious adversary: Crazy Hawk. “America at times feels like it is at a breaking point, or at least at a moment where it is divided and tested,” notes Stewart. “I address those fears and passions when drawing the world in this book. The future is not yet determined, but for some, it can seem a dark, violent place.”

Toby Brookes' novel "All That She Brings" follows the story of Matthew Banks, a young insurance executive in Hartford who suddenly finds himself a widow after losing his wife in a fiery crash.
Soon after, her infidelity is uncovered and he becomes dangerously tormented, acting out in ways alarming to both his neighbours and employer.
His company arranges sessions with their internal therapist, and while engaged in deeply provocative counselling, more trouble arises at home in Pasadena.
He flees west to attend to his mother's affairs and the family estate, only to find his estranged father, who has appeared after fifteen years, demanding a piece of the estate.
A shocking call comes from the company therapist, threatening to push him over the edge. A homeless prophet living on the beach, where he often escapes to surf, offers him hope.
This, and a renewed love for ceramics, help him rebuild a life he never asked for nor imagined; but one he might be able to roll with.
For readers who enjoy realist fiction in the style of Philip Roth or John Cheever, this fast-moving drama layered with multiple plot lines is reminiscent of a Wes Anderson screenplay.
It's guaranteed to quickly draw you in hold your attention to the end.

Now I'm awake I'm Walking with God, a suicide survivor tells their story
The problems of life, they can make you or break you, depending on your beliefs and perspectives. After setting myself up for failure and my world began to fall apart, I found myself sitting alone, humiliated, and broken beyond repair.
There was no way of coming back from this, or was there?
I chose to end my life when I could not handle the consequences that came from my own actions.
My mind was totally consumed with dark and painful thoughts that I could not let go of, but God, who is in control, decided, "No, Jerome, it's not your time.
As a matter of fact, I have plans for you, things for you to see, places you are to go.
No, my child, it's not your time." And with that, one chapter of my life came to a close and a new chapter began with God leading the way and blessing me beyond anything I could have imagined for myself.
This book was written while I was working abroad in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, in one of the many countries that the Lord gave me the opportunity to visit and work in.
This was a prime location for solitude with God, and I had a lot of free time to devote myself to the Lord in prayer, meditation, and fasting.
I feel God led me to this location for a deeper relationship with him, and part of me feels he led me here to write this book.
I'm one of the many people who looked at suicide as an option to dealing with the hardships of life.
Had it not been for God's grace and mercy, I would not be here today, and I would not have experienced the beautiful life that the Lord had waiting for me on the other side of my problems.

If Janine was on TripAdvisor I would add five out of five stars.
You want a more efficient, thriving business that allows you to choose when you work. Bring on the FREEDOM already!
The only people who truly know how fab you are previous clients.
You only want to work with lovely people who value you and in return you want to give them the best possible results.
I’m going to come right out and say it; nobody is as good as I am at helping people with their service offers. Some clients need help standing out in their field and articulating their difference.
Others want to package their expertise in a way that makes it obvious why their ideal clients would want it. No matter the price point.
My way into it is always through their offers.
What are you putting out in the world?
How do people know you’re what they need?
That’s the work I love the most.
I also have a business degree, a post-grad diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and 15 yrs + working with brands such as EE, Orange and Europcar on proposition development (AKA offers).
Some say they got nothing from their qualifications or corporate career. Personally, it’s given me so much insight! I know how the big boys do it so I can see which bits us smaller bods can leave out and which bits we need to keep in.
